Distant Stares is a Finnish gothic rock band born from the agony and solitude of its singer-songwriter and founder, Lassi Salminen. The music often carries the weight of countless gazes — toward a hopeless relationship that never came to be, and those that did, bearing a bittersweet stench. The songs and the atmosphere on this album present an endless walk through rainy darkness, always presenting both risk and reward—both beauty and cruelty. While other Finnish kids of the 1990s were mostly exposed to schlager music through their elders, Lassi was immersed in British goth bands from birth, thanks to his parents. In Distant Stares' music, influences can be heard from various dark corners of the musical spectrum—everything from ferocious black metal to hazy shoegaze. Formed in late 2022, Distant Stares has remained an active presence in the goth scene through collaborations with other artists, live performances, and single releases.
